Bridget turns 4

I find it amusing when people reminisce about the good old days before kids, husbands and responsibilities. When I hear people say "I can't even remember what it was like before I had kids," I just smile because I remember with vivid clarity. For James and I, every day with out children was a painful reminder of my broken body and what I can't produce.

I will never forget the day that James and I found out we were going to be parents - February 13, 2007. That was the first night we talked to Celina and she decided to place her baby with us. Fast forward five months to July. I met Celina for the first time the day before she gave birth. We'd been talking for months on the phone but that first meeting was still nerve wracking for me.

Bridget was born on July 17, 2007 and of course, she was perfect. I'd never seen a more beautiful baby. When I first saw her in the nursery, I knew she was meant to be with us. I know the decision wasn't easy for Celina. But I know that she knows that Bridget is loved and adored by James and I and the people around her.

I can't believe that four years have come and gone. I begged her to stay three but she was too excited to be four. I love everything about her, even her mood swings and grumpy attitude. Even on my hardest day, when she says something funny or smiles at me, everything seems a little better.

Bridget, your daddy and I love you so much! You are so special to us and I want you to know how you've made our lives richer. We couldn't imagine not having you around. We can't wait to watch you grow up and experience the world. I have a feeling you are going to do great things but most of all we want you to be happy! Happy birthday baby girl!
